#imhereyourethere – AN EXHIBITION OF NEW WORKS BY JIM DELUCIA

AXOM Gallery Press Release

October 25 – November 23, 2013

Opening Artist Reception: October 25, 2013  5-9 PM

AXOM Gallery is thrilled to present #imhereyourethere; an exhibition of new works by painter Jim DeLucia.

Influenced by how people connect with each other through social media, DeLucia’s inspiration for this new series of paintings is from his ‘liked’ and ‘hearted’ pictures from image based social media platforms like Instagram. In the ongoing stream of posts and responses these instant connections seem to validate our everyday life experiences. The ‘be here now’ of the baby boom generation has become the ‘I’m here and you’re there’ of the social media generation.

Depictions of places, pets and animals become visual narratives of ordinary moments captured within bravura brushstrokes and calligraphic pencil markings. DeLucia finds connections between random images and relays his impressions through an almost psychedelic color palette. Images crystalline from what seems an unfinished canvas, purposely asking us to connect into his process and in-turn, creating a real-time event between viewer and painter.

Born in Rochester, Jim received his BFA from SUNY Brockport. He works full time on art from his studio in the Anderson Alley Complex in Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts District. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited at numerous local galleries and juried shows including the University of Rochester, Nazareth College, Rochester Contemporary and the Memorial Art Gallery.
